The Tax Free Savings Account was introduced by the Canadian government in 2009. The Account allows Canadians over the age of 18 to save without paying tax on what the account earns, whether that be interest, dividends, or capital gains. You can contribute up to $5,000 per year, and any unused contribution room can be carried forward indefinitely. Because the TFSA is a registered account, you would be allowed to place your money in many of the same investments as an RRSP. You can withdraw savings from your TFSA as needed.
